What Black Notes captures, why it is needed, and the controls you have while recording a website.

Recording is always deliberate. Black Notes Recorder captures one browser tab only after you explicitly confirm the disclosure and press Start recording. It follows that tab through website navigation and uploads one continuous replay to the session selected in the extension.

01

What the extension collects

While recording is active, the extension may collect:

  • the page URL, visible page content, DOM structure, and visual styles;
  • clicks, pointer movement, scrolling, navigation, and other interactions;
  • values entered into non-password form fields;
  • console messages and request metadata such as request URL, method, status, duration, and error text;
  • comments you write and images you explicitly attach through the recording overlay; and
  • basic device context such as browser user agent, platform, timezone, viewport, screen size, and pixel ratio.
Password fields are masked. The extension does not request browser history, cookies, password manager, downloads, or bookmarks permissions. It does not record tabs you did not actively choose or capture request and response bodies.
02

How recording starts and stops

Recording starts only after you open the extension, review the disclosure, affirmatively consent, press Start recording, and grant website access. A visible Black Notes overlay remains on every recorded page with Browse, Comment, Highlight, and Stop controls.

Navigating or reloading continues the same replay. Closing the tab or pressing Stop ends it.

03

How data is used and shared

Captured data is used only to create session replays and diagnostics for the Black Notes review workflow. It is available to people who have access to the selected Black Notes session.

We do not sell recording data, use it for advertising, build advertising profiles, or use it for unrelated purposes.

04

Storage, security, and retention

Recordings and new comments are encrypted in transit using HTTPS and stored in Black Notes infrastructure hosted on Cloudflare.

When you connect your account, the extension stores a revocable device credential in Chrome local extension storage. That credential can list the workspaces and sessions available to your account and request a short-lived credential for a recording. The short-lived credential is kept in extension session storage and is revoked when the recording stops or expires. Neither credential is exposed to the website being recorded.

Recordings remain available until a session administrator deletes them or the associated session. Deleted items may remain recoverable for the product’s stated trash period and in limited operational backups before final removal.

05

Your choices

Do not start recording if the page contains information you are not authorized to share. Stop before entering sensitive non-password data. You can disconnect the account from the extension at any time.

To request access, correction, export, or deletion, contact the workspace administrator or email miguel@blacknosaur.com.

06

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when the recorder’s behavior changes. Material changes to data practices will also be disclosed in the extension before collection. Black Notes is operated by Blacknosaur. Questions can be sent to miguel@blacknosaur.com.
